Expressing anguish over the treatment meted out by the Congress leadership to his close supporters, party MP from Kadapa Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said he wondered how long his patience would last in the face of these developments.

Addressing a huge public meeting in Kakinada on Thursday to mark conclusion of his 18-day ‘Odarpu yatra' in East Godavari district, Mr. Reddy pointed towards Konda Surekha, former Minister and Ambati Rambabu, suspended general secretary of APCC, who were present on the dias, and said his heart was heavy at the injustice done to them. “I am anguished that I am unable to do anything. I don't know how long my patience will last.”

His brief 13-minute speech centred round the criticism of detractors of his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who tried to find fault with his programmes.

He hit back at them and asked whether anyone could question the implementation of programmes like Arogyasri, the health insurance scheme, Rs. 2 a kilo rice scheme and reservations for minorities.

Mr. Jagan took a swipe at the government for not coming to the rescue of families of those who lost their lives in the wake of YSR's death. “They even tried to prevent me from going on tour.”

Although the MP avoided direct criticism of the party leadership, his camp used the occasion to show its strength. Over two dozen MLAs representing constituencies in all the three regions were either present at the public meeting or called on him earlier to express their solidarity.

They included Minister for Social Welfare Pilli Subash Chandra Bose, former Ministers Konathala Ramakrishna, Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao, Mudragada Padmanabham, Konda Surekha and several ex-MLAs and MPs.

Minister for Mines Balineni Srinivas Reddy declared his support to Mr. Jagan at a press conference at Darsi. He also declared that the MP would resume his yatra, this time in Prakasam district after conclusion of the monsoon session of Parliament in August.

Former MLA Bajireddi Goverdhan, a die-hard YSR loyalist from Nizamabad district, also declared that Mr. Reddy would resume his Telangana tour that was ‘forcibly' cut short following disturbances at Mahabubabad in Warangal district on May 28.
